<Arcturus>: Hi Mahou.
* SarahWolf waves then dies for the 4th time

* Arcturus wears a button that says "I voted!" <Mahou>: I've just watched Alien 9. I'm seriously considering changing my vote.
<Arxane>: Have I voted? Nope. <Geoduck>: Mahou: For Kelly Ray? <Mith2K>: *Raises hand* Because we're still waiting on those releases ;>

*** Stan is now known as Fi-almost-away <Mahou>: Geo: Yep! <Geoduck>: Otakuman: She plays Yuri Otani in "Alien Nine"
*** SarahWolf is now known as SarahWolf-dead-4-times <Mahou>: Her portrayal of Yuri is VERY well done. <Geoduck>: I believe this was her first anime dubbing role. <Otakuman>: Geo: Ohh OK <Geoduck>: The "Alien Nine" dub is very well done. <Mahou>: She either makes yuou feel sorry for Yuri, or makes you want to strangle Yuri. <Geoduck>: Veronica Taylor gets another great role in. <Otakuman>: Geo: I was curious who she was when i read the credits <Fi-almost-away>: I heard the the studio that did Handmaid went under?
*** Nijhazer has joined #dubreview

<Nijhazer>: Hi there, SarahWolf-dead-4-times. <Mahou>: The studio that did Hand Maid May?
<Nijhazer>: Mith, there are two of you this week? <Fi-almost-away>: Was that the same studio that did Mohoromatic or was that Ginax? <Mahou>: As in Animaze? <Mith2K>: One needs kicking :> <Geoduck>: I believe they're talking about animation studios. <Mith2K>: <Not this one> <Otakuman>: Yeah Lisa Ortiz & Tara Jayne does Misc.Voices If i reember geo
*** Mithrandir2k was kicked by Geoduck <Begone, foul knave!> <SarahWolf-dead-4-times>: o_O <Mahou>: Oh! You mean Wonderfarm, then.
<Arxane>: Mahou: It's actually the company that produced it.
<Arxane>: The company's called Five Ways <Mahou>: ??

<Nijhazer>: Welcome, Norkster <Mith2K>: And the hollow shell still has my nick. Darnit. <Nork22>: hello <Mith2K>: Hi Nork <Mahou>: Hiya, Nork
<Arxane>: Five Ways produced a title called Hand Maid Mai. Two of the DVDs are in limbo because the company went bankcrupt <Mahou>: Arxane: Oh! Okay, now I get it. <Mahou>: I think. <Mahou>: ]P <Geoduck>: Arxane: Link? <Fi-almost-away>: Mai or May, or is Mai the sequal?
<Arxane>: the anime nation news webpage <Mahou>: Mai is the sequal <Geoduck>: Thanks. <SarahWolf-dead-5-times>: Geo: you haven't kicked me yet =P
*** Trowa has joined #dubreview - Clones: 2 from Trowa <SarahWolf-dead-5-times> CtrlF1 whois; ShiftF8 ping; F8 to punish <Geoduck>: SarahWolf-dead-5-times: You hugged me earlier. That wins you immunity. For life, probably.
<Arxane>: Greetings, Trowa
* Mahou goes to switch DVDs <SarahWolf-dead-5-times>: o_O i did? *forgets things easily*
*** SarahWolf-dead-5-times is now known as SarahWolf
*** [DR]Nij has joined #dubreview - Clones: 2 from [DR]Nij <Nijhazer> CtrlF1 whois; ShiftF8 ping; F8 to punish
* Mith2K switches CDs. Garth Brooks at 2am... <[DR]Nij>: Ah, the joys of wireless
* Nork22 nearly finished watching vol.1 of haibane renmei
* Mahou returns, in a .hack mood. <Otakuman>: I did see vol.1 of HR but didnt get it
* Trowa is Sarah <Geoduck>: Off-topic: A crappy way to end the day... http://home.comcast.net/~abersold/Car3.jpg <[DR]Nij>: Did someone shoot at you? <Geoduck>: [DR]Nij: It was a rock. It also shattered my rear window. <Geoduck>: http://home.comcast.net/~abersold/Car2.jpg <Mith2K>: You okay? <Mahou>: Yikes!
*** Trowa Quit <Leaving> <Geoduck>: I'm okay. On the other hand, my underwear may never recover. <Mahou>: That looks pretty vicious. <Mahou>: Especially for a rock. <Nork22>: sheesh it does look scary... <Mith2K>: Just a hint - keep the underwear until you next see them. Postage due. <Mith2K>: ;> <Geoduck>: :O <Geoduck>: Okay, let's grab a new topic... <[DR]Nij>: This looks to be a delightful evening. <[DR]Nij>: Pity there were not one but two big conventions this weekend.
*** Geoduck changes topic to 'Robotech...good dub or bad?' <Otakuman>: Looks like tonight is gonna be slow ciz of Anime Fest <Mahou>: Two big cons? <[DR]Nij>: Robotech got more people into anime than any other series I know. That's enough. <[DR]Nij>: Anime Fest and BAAF <Otakuman>: I got hooked on RT whiIe was in High chool <Otakuman>: Agreed
*** Nijhazer Quit <Operation timed out>
*** Geoduck sets mode: +o [DR]Nij
*** [DR]Nij is now known as Nijhazer
*** Mith2K is now known as Mithrandir2k <Mahou>: Oh. I knew about BAAF, but not the Anime Fest. Ah well.
*** ChanServ sets mode: +q Nijhazer
*** ChanServ sets mode: +o Nijhazer
<Arxane>: All I can remember about Robotech was one of its movies, and I liked it a lot even though I didn't understand it <Mahou>: Robotech was my favorite animation when I was growing up.
<Arxane>: Back then, I'd say the dub was pretty good <Otakuman>: First in the 70s was Star Blazers & Battle Of The Planets, The 80s was RT
<Nijhazer>: What the dub did is not something I'd consider acceptable today. <Geoduck>: I've only seen the Macross saga of Robotech. I think it's pretty well dubbed for the most part. <Nork22>: robotech... rather good, but hearing the dialogue now, it's rather cheesy <Fi-almost-away>: Sailor Moon is up there near Pobotech the way I see it
<Nijhazer>: Heck, if you look at it from the same perspective, it wasn't acceptable even then.
<Arxane>: But if I watched it now, I'd probably think, "I loved THIS!?" <Geoduck>: The name changes are unfortunate, but considering the times, pretty much inevitable. <Otakuman>: And the RT VAs stil doing voices for other Anime Shows <Otakuman>: hehe
<Nijhazer>: The Macross portion was pretty much left intact, name changes aside... everything else fell under the grinder. <Otakuman>: Fi: Yeah SM in the 90s <Mahou>: Well...they DID combine three unrelated series together, right?
<Nijhazer>: But Macek had his reasons. He did what he had to do to get it on the air, and in doing so, launched the anime phenomenon in the U.S. <Nork22>: yeah most of the VAs in Robotech I recognized.... ;> <Nork22>: ahhhh Barbara Goodson :D
*** SarahWolf is now known as Evil_zombie_monkey <Geoduck>: Kind of funny...there are two different anime series featuring the daughter of Max and Milia...and the American version came out first!
<Arxane>: Nij: Yep. He said, "Would America really believe in a show where a woman defends a fortress by singing?" <Fi-almost-away>: It was great for its time, like 50's sci-fi, it is our animated history. It is a great anime but I like some other thingsmore now
*** Mike_Toole has joined #dubreview <Otakuman>: Reba still has that Minmei voice
<Arxane>: By now, we've seen a lot stranger <Otakuman>: Oh Rick.-Minmei
<Nijhazer>: Welcome, MT <Mike_Toole>: howdy
<Arxane>: Welcome, Mike <Otakuman>: Hi Mike <Nork22>: heya mike <Mahou>: Hiya, Mike. <Mike_Toole>: d'oh! dinnertime. afk for a bit. <Mithrandir2k>: I must admit I still find the "She sings to save the world" thing a bit too Streisand. <Nork22>: not to mention the song....
<Nijhazer>: Nah, it's not so bad in Macross.
*** Evil_zombie_monkey is now known as SarahWolf-dead <Mahou>: I tended not to think much of a dub back then. I was a kid, I didn't know anything, I didn't care.
<Nijhazer>: And in Macross Plus it's just beautifully done. <Nork22>: stage fright starlight... la la la
<Nijhazer>: It's in Macross II and Macross 7 that it just gets stupid. <Otakuman>: Ahh yeah Barbara Goodson <Mahou>: I just liked the action in RT.
<Arxane>: Music in Macross II = teh s uck <Fi-almost-away>: I agree on Macross
*** Geoduck changes topic to 'More annoying...Minmay's English songs or Japanese songs?' <Mahou>: Who played Max Sterling, anyways? <Geoduck>: Mahou: Cam Clarke.
<Nijhazer>: Robotech was a hit because yes, it had all the action but dammit, it was a great character-driven show. How often did we get ANYTHING like that back in the day? <Mahou>: Ah, thanks Geo. No wonder I liked him!
<Arxane>: Geoduck: Depends on who's singing the Japanese songs
<Arcturus>: >.>
<Arcturus>: <.< <Nork22>: never heard the song in japanese but ill say the english song is annoying <Otakuman>: Kinda cool I met Reba, Tony Oliver <Rick Hunter> & Melanie MacQueen <Lisa Hayes> at the TDK Booth last year <Geoduck>: Nijhazer: Scooby Doo? :P <Mithrandir2k>: Nij: Dreamstone. <Mithrandir2k>: ;> <Mahou>: Mari Ijima is teh japanese voice of Minmay, right? <Geoduck>: Nork22: It's annoying in Japanese too. "Zoom zoom, zoom zoom! My boyfriend is a pilot... <etc.>" <Mahou>: *the
<Nijhazer>: Scooby Doo is the most important piece of animation in the history of the universe. <Fi-almost-away>: I will bow out of any saying anything is anoying, waitsd for topic to change <Otakuman>: Yes Mahou <Nork22>: lol <Fi-almost-away>: And the most bland
*** Geoduck changes topic to 'More annoying...Arcturus or Geoduck?' <Mithrandir2k>: Nij: Yeah. Shame about the film.
<Arcturus>: Damn that Arcturus.
<Arxane>: I don't know any of you that well, so I'll vote for myself <Nork22>: yeah damn arcturus
<Nijhazer>: If it had not been for those stupid kids, we may have all gotten away with it.
<Arcturus>: He just...hey, wait a sec! <Fi-almost-away>: Arc is an op, has the fear of god <Otakuman>: Speaking of Mari she & Reba was supposed to do a Duet at Fanime Con 03 But Mari had to cancel her FC trip
<Nijhazer>: Now that would've been cool just on principle. <Mahou>: I think I'll save my opinons on Arc and Geo for whenever I meet them. =P <Mithrandir2k>: Nij: Watch Tantei Gakuen Q - it needs that line in the dub. <SarahWolf-dead>: its kinda hard to say =P <Geoduck>: Now Macross is the only anime that Mari ever did, wasn't it? <Otakuman>: I'd pay to see Mari & Rebecca singing together <Otakuman>: Hehe <Mahou>: Hmmm...that would have been interesting.
<Nijhazer>: If they had been at Fanime-Con, you would indeed have paid to see it <Mahou>: It's like the woman who did the Tenchi OAV songs and Chisa Yokoyama singing together, I think. <Nork22>: sharon scott... <Otakuman>: Mahou: Sharyn Scott
*** Nijhazer changes topic to 'How many Streamline dubs have you seen? Which is your favorite' <Geoduck>: Mahou: Yeah, except Mari and Reba sang different melodies. <D'oh!> <Otakuman>: I thought VHD is good <Mahou>: Castle of Cagliostro. <Mahou>: My first and one of my favorite anie dubs. Ever! <Mahou>: *anime
* Mahou can't fricken spell <Geoduck>: Hmm... Akira, Nadia, some of Babel II, some of Dirty Pair: Affair on Nolandia, My Neighbor Totoro.
<Nijhazer>: CoC is a lot of fun, yes... and VHD was certainly a pivotal dub for me. <Nork22>: is wicked city <first dub> by streamline? <Geoduck>: I think Totoro is the best I've seen. A really outstanding dub. <Otakuman>: Totoro was FOX Not Streamline
<Arxane>: Haven't seen any streamline dubs that I know of
<Nijhazer>: I think my favorite dub of theirs is probably Eight Man After. <Geoduck>: I've got a soft spot for the Streamline Nadia dub. <Otakuman>: EMA is good, Liked Casshan Robot Hunter
<Arcturus>: I've only seen the old Akira dub. <Mahou>: I don't think I've seen any other Steamline dubs...at least except for Nadia. <Geoduck>: Otakuman: Well, it was Macek. Close enough. ;> <Nork22>: ive seen akira and I hated it... both dub and the film...
<Nijhazer>: The old Akira dub is a classic. <Mahou>: Ah yes. Akira, too. <Otakuman>: LOL @ Geo
<Nijhazer>: If only for the upswings... <Mahou>: Tetsuooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!
<Nijhazer>: I'm kingNOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW....
<Nijhazer>: As an extension to this question, how many old Streamline dubs have you re-watched recently?
<Nijhazer>: Or just old dubs in general <pre-1990> <Mahou>: Recently? None I can think of. <Geoduck>: Nijhazer: I actually just ordered all of the "Zillion" tapes from Right Stuf. <Otakuman>: Anyone watched Magical Girl Gigi?
<Nijhazer>: I never got to see that one <Zillion> <Fi-almost-away>: I saw Dirty Pair today on Showtime^^ <Geoduck>: And I'll soon be acquiring the old Dirty Pair movie dubs.
*** BizarroDX has joined #dubreview <Otakuman>: I like the Old DP Movies <Otakuman>: Heya Biz
<Nijhazer>: Welcome, Biz <BizarroDX>: Hey all! <BizarroDX>: walla walla <Fi-almost-away>: I cannot think of all the things they have other than meantioned here <Mahou>: Hiya, Bizarro <Geoduck>: I've watched a bit of Speed Racer recently. <Fi-almost-away>: DP?
<Nijhazer>: Well, there's also... no wait, that's a USMC dub <Geoduck>: I'm planning on rewatching the Robotech Macross saga. <Otakuman>: NIJH: Wich one?
<Nijhazer>: Isn't Dominion Tank Police a non-Streamline dub? <Mahou>: I think that's USMC... <Fi-almost-away>: I never heard of Magical Girl Gigi <Otakuman>: Yup its USMC/CPM
* SarahWolf-dead hugs biz <Fi-almost-away>: any good? <Geoduck>: I need to watch Gall Force. <Mahou>: A very old USMC, but yes.
<Nijhazer>: It's actually not TOO bad...
<Nijhazer>: Pretty good considering the time
<Nijhazer>: There was a big controversy over it because the music was changed <Otakuman>: Its pretty good Fi, Its Streamline too, With Reba WestAs Gigi <Fi-almost-away>: Is it out on DVD?
<Nijhazer>: Nope <Otakuman>: No VHS only im affraid
<Nijhazer>: This topic is a fun bit of nostalgia.
<Nijhazer>: I'm going to carry it over... <Mithrandir2k>: VHS? No Betamax?
<Arxane>: Nij: Unfortunately, I'm too young to experience nostalgia <Geoduck>: Yay!
*** Nijhazer changes topic to 'Your Favorite pre-1995 Anime' <Otakuman>: Cant wait for BOTP DVD Next week <Mithrandir2k>: Bubblegum Crisis. <Geoduck>: Tenchi Muyo OVA 1. <Mahou>: Lodoss War is pre-'95, right? <Fi-almost-away>: Nadia, is very good <Fi-almost-away>: ok <Nork22>: nostalgia? heh... if I can watch doreamon again, that's nostalgia :>
<Nijhazer>: Good call by Geoduck. Probably would be mine, except I didn't see any Tenchi until two years ago. <Otakuman>: Ahh yes Record Of Lodoss war <Mithrandir2k>: Lodoss is 93, I think. <Mahou>: Memory's a bit fuzzy. <SarahWolf-dead>: i didn't watch any anime before 1995... cuz i was born in 91 =P <BizarroDX>: released before 95 or made before 95? <Geoduck>: Oh...do you mean anime *I* saw pre-1995? <Mahou>: Slayers season 1 is nice too.
<Nijhazer>: Yup.
<Nijhazer>: Anime you saw before 1995. <Geoduck>: In that case... Speed Racer. <Otakuman>: I liked ELH, Moldiver
<Nijhazer>: The golden age of VHS, boys! And girl. <BizarroDX>: why is Sarawolf dead? <Nork22>: hmmmm..... pre-1995? quite a lot of super giant robo :>
<Nijhazer>: I killed her. <Otakuman>: Battle Of The Planets, Star Blazers, Voltron, <Otakuman>: My Favs <SarahWolf-dead>: o_O boys and girl? <Mahou>: Giant Robo!
<Nijhazer>: For me, it's all about Robot Carnival. <Geoduck>: Speed Racer and the occasional episode of Robotech and Voltron are the ONLY anime series I remember pre-1995. <Mahou>: And Orguss <Fi-almost-away>: I just say Tenchi last week and the relitives LOVEd Lodoss Wars
<Arcturus>: Geez.
<Arcturus>: The only thing I can say is Speed Racer. <BizarroDX>: okay
<Arcturus>: Oh, and Voltron. <Nork22>: grendizer!!! <Otakuman>: Oh man not seen RC in years
<Arcturus>: Neither of which I remember very well.
<Nijhazer>: WE NEED Robot Carnival on DVD, dammit!
<Arxane>: I can't say. I only came to this country in 1995 <Otakuman>: TranZor z <Otakuman>: Hehe <Mahou>: Haha! Otaku no Video <Mithrandir2k>: I find Lodoss is a great way to convert gamers to anime-fans.
<Arxane>: We had no anime over in South Africa <Fi-almost-away>: Slayers season 1 <---That was CPM
<Nijhazer>: OK, Arx... for you, then, what is your favorite anime you've seen that came out prior to 1995? <Mithrandir2k>: And Rune Soldier has made the process even easier - an entire series based on a 2nd Ed D&D gag <Otakuman>: Not seen RS <Mahou>: Fi: Software Scuptors, actually...but I guess they're the same.
<Nijhazer>: I haven't either, but I've seen Rune Soldier. <BizarroDX>: what about Fatal Fury? We old gamers remember that one
<Arxane>: I'd probably say Speed Racer
<Nijhazer>: I remember a lot of anime came out that was similar... but stupid... <Nork22>: havent seen lodoss but enjoying rune soldier <Otakuman>: I saw the vol.3 cover to RS Man that Elf Girl is well built <Mahou>: Ranma 1/2 <Otakuman>: ^_- <Fi-almost-away>: I have disc 1 and it is amusing, not to deep and complicated though, at least so fay
<Arxane>: G-Force was also interesting <Fi-almost-away>: Fun show <Nork22>: samurai pizza cats?
<Nijhazer>: ADV put out one on VHS called Dragon Slayer that was dubbed by the Network crew. God, it sucked. <SarahWolf-dead>: o_O am i the only one here that was born after 1990? <Geoduck>: Am I the only one here that was born before 1970? <Otakuman>: NIJH: That was Urban Vision not ADV
<Nijhazer>: Ah, Fatal Fury! Good times! <Nork22>: geehhh.... fatal fury... <Mahou>: Fatal Fury. All three movies! <BizarroDX>: Fatal Fury rocked <Fi-almost-away>: Geo: I wish
<Nijhazer>: You sure? The listing I saw for it said ADV. Ah well; I borrowed the VHS from a friend back in the day. <Otakuman>: FF : Good <Mahou>: Back when Viz was king. <Geoduck>: Phew! <Mithrandir2k>: Fatal fury? You call that a game? Now, Eye of the Beholder - THAT was a game ;> <BizarroDX>: lol <SarahWolf-dead>: me going away now... i'll come back some time later
<Nijhazer>: Geoduck: I think Mike Toole was is older than you, but he's away ATM. <Otakuman>: NIJH: I have the Gatchaman 93 OAVS there is a DS Trailer on it
<Nijhazer>: Take care, SW! <Fi-almost-away>: Slayers ADV is Lina/Naga and Premium not the TV series
* SarahWolf-dead hugs Nij <BizarroDX>: come back alive SaraWolf <Geoduck>: Nij; We can compare birth certificates at AWA.
<Nijhazer>: I vote for carrying the nostalgia topics a bit further. Who's with me?
* Fi-almost-away Will be at AWA as well^^ <SarahWolf-dead>: i want to goto AWA but its too far x_x <Fi-almost-away>: yo^^ <Mithrandir2k>: Likewise
*** Cyberian has joined #dubreview - Clones: 2 from Cyberian <DariusTAD> CtrlF1 whois; ShiftF8 ping; F8 to punish
<Arxane>: Nij: Go right ahead.
<Nijhazer>: Welcome, Cyberian <Otakuman>: I saw the Premium trailer looks interesting <Mahou>: How nostalgic are you thinking? <SarahWolf-dead>: => anyone wanna come pick me up and take me to AWA?
*** DariusTAD Quit <Connection reset by peer>
*** Cyberian is now known as DariusTAD <Fi-almost-away>: Slayers is devided up into two different franchises here on the anime
*** Nijhazer changes topic to 'What anime moment got you hooked on the stuff?' <Geoduck>: SarahWolf-dead: Sorry...it's a nonstop flight!
<Nijhazer>: By this topic I mean, what moment in anime first made you really think, "Wow, anime is awesome!" <Geoduck>: What moment got me hooked? Easy answer. <SarahWolf-dead>: ='< <Otakuman>: Anime Scene right NIJH? <Mithrandir2k>: Bubblegum Crisis.
<Nijhazer>: Right; anime scene. <BizarroDX>: Fatal Fury TMP <Mithrandir2k>: It STILL makes me think "Wow, anime is awesome" <Fi-almost-away>: Lums top being grabed in the first episode
<Nijhazer>: Tell us what scene in what anime really got you hooked <Mahou>: In CoC, the first car chase between Lupin/Jigen, Clarice, and the MIB.
<Arcturus>: That would be the scene at the end of an episode of Tenchi Universe. <Otakuman>: Lets see when Rick gets shot down I was DAMN <BizarroDX>: before that I wasn't impressed, Robotech and Star Blazer reruns just didn't speak to me <Geoduck>: The movie, Tenchi Muyo in Love... the "going to school" montage at the beginning of the movie. Princess Ayeka walks into the classroom, all dignified. And I fell in LOOOOUVRE!
<Arcturus>: The episode "No Need For Ryoko!" <Otakuman>: In Robotech
<Nijhazer>: Which one? The one where he was on the magic bicycle?
<Arxane>: The demon god chase scene in "Princess Mononoke" <Fi-almost-away>: Which tenchi scene was that
<Nijhazer>: Tenchi Muyo in Love is a great pick.
<Arcturus>: Well, I would describe it, but there's spoilers. <Otakuman>: NIJH: Battle Cry & Phantasm <Fi-almost-away>: There is PM and later, OK?
<Nijhazer>: That was the first Tenchi I saw. When he goes in to fight Kain at the end I was just enthralled.
*** Nork has joined #dubreview <Geoduck>: Nork Nork Nork! <Geoduck>: Sorry. <Otakuman>: Heya Nork
<Arcturus>: Tenchi Muyo in Love was the second Tenchi I saw. <Nork>: goddam blue screen of death <Geoduck>: Punish me.
<Arxane>: Great. Now we have two norks <BizarroDX>: Nork! <Fi-almost-away>: We also have 22 norks-_-
<Nijhazer>: Welcome back, Nork
<Arcturus>: I watched it the same night as the first Tenchi I saw - the final four episodes of Tenchi Universe.
*** Nork22 Quit <Connection reset by peer>
* Arcturus punishes Geoduck
*** Nork is now known as Nork22 <Mahou>: Hmmm...I forget which Tenchi I saw first. TMIL or the OVAs...
<Nijhazer>: That's an odd bit of continuity, Arc. <Otakuman>: Yay Sheri Lynn was on Big O Last week
<Arcturus>: For your punishment, fifteen minutes with an octopus in your pants! <Fi-almost-away>: I also liked when the girl learnd to love her tank in Tank Police <Mahou>: LOL
<Arcturus>: Nijhazer: Yeah, I know.
<Nijhazer>: I think a lot of people saw TMIL first because it came on Sci-Fi.
<Arxane>: Arc: Live or dead and smelling? <Mahou>: Nij: I didn't have Sci Fi. Ever
<Arcturus>: However, if I had seen some of the middle episodes of Tenchi Universe first, I may not have been as captivated. <Otakuman>: Nijh: Yeah TMIL gott me hooked on Tenchi <Nork22>: speaking on topic, it's in Eva when Unit01 went ballistic :D <Mahou>: I saw TMIL on tape. <Geoduck>: Tenchi Universe started strong and ended strong, but the middle was tres horrible. <Mithrandir2k>: Got it: The end of BGC Ep 2, where Linna places the flowers on Irene's grave. Knew it would come to me eventually <Mahou>: Achika is still my favorite Tenchi girl. =P <Fi-almost-away>: Deedlit learning to resprect, change and grow in Lodoss Wars. Those are some of the human interaction scenes that got me started <Otakuman>: That PLus the Mihosho Special & the Pretty Sammy OAVS <DAMN YOU PIONEER FOR NOT DUBBING MPS!!> <Mahou>: Didn't they dub the Pretty Sammy OVAs? <Otakuman>: Deedlit!!!-Parn <Nork22>: elf luv!!! <Mahou>: Parn!!!!!!-Deedlit <Otakuman>: Maho yes they did
<Arxane>: Pa-pa-parn <Mahou>: I know they didn't do the Ovas <Otakuman>: TV They didnt
* Otakuman GRRRS <Mahou>: Pow-pow-Parn! <Fi-almost-away>: Geo: The Tenchi show where Sasami is on the ghost ship had my lady crying at the end and myself close. It was a good one <Mahou>: I mean TV!
<Nijhazer>: My personal anime moment was probably when I watched Macross Plus for the third time. <Otakuman>: Phantom Quest Corp is good <Mahou>: Watching Lodoss War and Slayers REALLY got me into anime because they're both fantasy based series.
<Nijhazer>: Up to that point I had thought it was a pretty show with cool mecha action and nice charcters.
<Nijhazer>: Watching it for the third time I realized that it was completely focused around how music affects people. Then I realized that this theme also ran throughout Robotech, which I had gotten hooked on as a kid-- just for the action.
* Fi-almost-away High fives the Mahou <Otakuman>: Yeah I might get Lodoos On DVD since CPM Is dropping the price on BOTH TV & OAVS
<Nijhazer>: That was around the time when I realized that anime could and often was a lot deeper than I gave it credit for. <Geoduck>: Fi-almost-away: Well, I'm a heartless bastich. <Mahou>: I mean, what american-based animation has a young, female, short-tempered magic user with a spell containing the payload of a TAC nuke? <Mithrandir2k>: Well iven that Lodoss was based on the creator's D&D Campaign World, and Slayers is a pisstake of Forgotten Realms...
*** SarahWolf-dead is now known as SarahWolf <Fi-almost-away>: Slayers and tenchi were later for me so it does not count in getting me hooked, they just took me to the next level <Otakuman>: I saw the Sub for Slayers at an anime club, So i got the dub Tapes & got hooked on Lisa As Lina Inverse <Fi-almost-away>: Sara Lives^^ <SarahWolf>: until i die again in a few min ^_^
<Nijhazer>: I've never seen Slayers. <BizarroDX>: yay <Mahou>: Yes. Lisa is great as Lina. <Mithrandir2k>: Saw the first series. It's funny, but I never really saw the 'greatness' of it. I prefer Rune Soldier for fantasy gags. <Otakuman>: Too bad she wont be in Premium :< <Nork22>: cynthia is better....
* Nork22 runs and hide.... <Mithrandir2k>: Cynthia rocks :>
<Nijhazer>: Well, a good enough dub can make any series better.
<Nijhazer>: And I'll admit, Lisa Ortiz has that kind of talent. <Fi-almost-away>: You must, Newtype has it in there top 25 must have anime <Otakuman>: I like Cynthia as Yuna but Lisa IS LINA <Otakuman>: hehehe <BizarroDX>: hm
<Nijhazer>: I loved Tylor, but when she really came into the picture in disc three it just went through the stratosphere. <Nork22>: :P <Otakuman>: Nijh: Agreed
* Mahou has never seen any of the Slayers movies dubbed, so wouldn't have a basis for comparison. <Fi-almost-away>: Cynthis is a yunger Lina, different temperment as I see it <Otakuman>: Mr.Tylor Mr.Tylor!!!-Emi & Yumi
<Nijhazer>: And I think that makes a great segue into our next topic... <Geoduck>: Segue? Whooo!
*** Nijhazer changes topic to 'What anime shows/films would you hate if not for a great dub?'
<Nijhazer>: Or instead of hate, dislike at varying levels. <Nork22>: love hina... <Fi-almost-away>: You might be able to rent the first Slayers movie, the second is due out Nov 12
<Arcturus>: Hrm. <Mahou>: Hummm... <Otakuman>: Ahhh yes Love Hina <Nork22>: if the dub had been better I wouldn't have hate it as much as I did before <Otakuman>: Damn November? <SarahWolf>: my bday is nov 4 ^_^ <Nork22>: kinda opposite to the topic but nevermind ^^ <Otakuman>: Thats IG for ya Nork <Geoduck>: Nijhazer: Shinesman would be nigh-worthless if not for the great dub.
<Nijhazer>: I thought the Love Hina dub was pretty good in spots. <Mahou>: Trouble Chocolate. <Nork22>: much like sakura wars movie... Leni??!!! IT'S FRICKEN RENI!!!!
<Nijhazer>: The tea house play episode in particular was great. <Geoduck>: And I probably wouldn't have bought Assemble Insert if it didn't have a great dub. <Fi-almost-away>: Shinsman=satire=camp^^
<Nijhazer>: I have yet to see Shinesman but I've heard about it; is that the one with "Get into the glowing green square"? <BizarroDX>: "Stop waisting ma time"-SW movie
<Arcturus>: Nijhazer: Yes. <Otakuman>: Ahh yes Jessica Calvello was great in that on Geo <Geoduck>: "Shiina, get in the vortex."
<Nijhazer>: I need to see it if only to know in what context that line was delivered. <Otakuman>: Nijh: Yup <Geoduck>: And of course... "I'M GONNA DIE IN A GODZILLA SUIT!!!" <Mahou>: "Aah! Giant fish, right in my face!"
<Arcturus>: Geoduck: Was that the original line? <Geoduck>: Arcturus: No, I don't think so. <Geoduck>: They took some liberties, praise Allah! <Otakuman>: Hey Knights Of The Zodiac has some SM Vas in the show <Otakuman>: ^_^ <Geoduck>: Otakuman: ... <Fi-almost-away>: I think that Mohoromatic is great dubed. Having her voice sound so sad and serious at times makes me melt. It makes the dub <Mahou>: And as sacriligious<sp?> as this may sound, I seriously doubt I'd like Sailor Moon as much as I do now if I hadn't seen the dub. <Fi-almost-away>: Is anyone from Mohoromatic here? <Geoduck>: Fi-almost-away: I have a problem with the Mahoromatic dub, and that would be David Umansky basically sounding the same as Suguru as he did as Keitaro.
<Arxane>: I'm glad the "Noir" dub is good. If wasn't I probably wouldn't have been able to sit through some of the slower episodes
*** Fi-almost-away is now known as Stan <Geoduck>: Fi: No pros in the chatroom tonight... <Otakuman>: Yeah Wendee Lee as the Teacher from Hell <Otakuman>: LOL
<Nijhazer>: Well, it's a big convention weekend. <Mithrandir2k>: I'm glad that's not just me. Noir in Japanese bored the heck out of me. In English it's more interesting. <Otakuman>: I heard some Noir, Monica & Shelley Rocks <Otakuman>: Hehe <BizarroDX>: I need to catch up on Noir <Mahou>: I'm three volume behind on Noir <Mahou>: Actually, are they up to 6 now? <BizarroDX>: Mahou: same here
<Arxane>: Mahou: Five. Six comes out this month
<Arcturus>: I just published Arxane's review of volume 5, for those interested. <Mahou>: Ugh...then I will be four beind. I only have two volumes thus far. <Mithrandir2k>: UK is up to volume 2. <Mahou>: *behind <Mithrandir2k>: Vol 3 comes out this month <Mithrandir2k>: Along with *drumroll* Rahxephon Vol 1
<Arxane>: Poor UK <Otakuman>: Lets see, Kaite Griffin <Sailor Mars> Julie Lemieux <Sammy> Rob Tinkler <Rubeus> & Tracey Hoyt <Rini #1> are in the Knights Dub BTW
*** Arcturus changes topic to 'Ever found errors in a dub?'
<Arxane>: Otaku: How was KotZ? Didn't get a chance to see it <Stan>: Princes Nine and Gunsmith Cats are better Dubed than subed not that the Japanese dubing is that bsad but the English dubing is just that good <Mithrandir2k>: We're getting them slowly, but at least we're GETTING them. We only started getting Neon Genesis and Nadesico last year. Up till then, we didn't have ANY bilingual DVD releases save Akira and Macross. <Mahou>: Meaning, Arc? <Otakuman>: Arx: It was good
<Arxane>: Otaku: Cool
<Arcturus>: Well, I was going over Ai Yori Aoshi vol. 4 when I noticed something unusual.
<Nijhazer>: I don't know about that for Gunsmith Cats, but I'll agree on Princess Nine.
<Nijhazer>: P9 is a good show, but the dub really makes it phenomenal. <Nork22>: monster island errors? orbital flame? Baufram? Norman? <Mike_Toole>: bak.
<Nijhazer>: WB, MT.
<Arxane>: Welcome back, Mike <Otakuman>: Mmmm Amanda Winn Lee as RallyM
<Arcturus>: At one point, Aoi says to Kaoru, "Can you hold still for one short moment?" in the first episode on the disk, but didn't have any reason to say it. <BizarroDX>: sooooo...good <Geoduck>: Errors...well, there's the notorious line about Hitomi jumping "8 feet" in Escaflowne. <Otakuman>: Man this really SUCKS!!-Rally Vincent
<Arcturus>: She then said the exact same line in the last episode. <BizarroDX>: mmmmm....cake.... <Geoduck>: I detected an audible splice in "Fruits Basket"
<Arcturus>: There's also the occasional script writing error. 00]<Mahou>: I like the .hack//SIGN dub, but there are quite a few odd script changes that really wasn't necessary. 00]<Stan>: "No explosives in the hopuse," "Oh darn!" 00] <Arcturus>: Such as the discussion of the "swing and run" in Princess Nine. 00]<Otakuman>: Whats new at the Jump Mike? 00]<Geoduck>: Arcturus: Oh yeah...I don't think Matt Greenfield is quite as familiar with baseball jargon as he thinks he is. 00] <Arcturus>: No such play by that name exists in baseball. 00] <Nijhazer>: "Give me the ol' knuckleball, right down the middle" <Nork22>: what was the real term for "swing and run" or what is it suppose to be anyway <Stan>: But DID the script changes affect the story in .Hack?
<Arcturus>: Nork22: Passed ball <Nork22>: hmm...
<Arcturus>: It's where the catcher misses a pitch that he should have caught. <Geoduck>: Or simply "Dropped third strike" <Otakuman>: Geo: I remember Matt telling me that they had Advisors from the Houston Astros Basball Team for P9 <Mithrandir2k>: I know a lot of people complain about the rewrites in DaiGuard, calling them errors, but I like them. They're just reinterpretation. <Mike_Toole>: Herbie: Working on a new PHP-based engine for the site, and trying to catch up with teh giant 'to be watched' pile. <Geoduck>: Otakuman: I didn't think the Astros sucked THAT bad... <Mike_Toole>: and trying to review tokyo godfathers, which is harder than it looks. <Mahou>: Stan: Not really, but some of the scenes do come across as somewhat...oh what's the word...
<Arcturus>: If the catcher drops the third strike, the batter can attempt to get to first. <Otakuman>: MIke: Ohhh I see <Nork22>: ahhhhh......
<Nijhazer>: MT: Drop me a line if you need any help with the PHP thing. I wrote one for Dub Review; we're liking it well. <Mahou>: A little off, I'd say. <Otakuman>: Mike: Did you reviewed Animation Runner Kuromi yet? <Nork22>: explains why she left it for the third strike
*** SarahWolf is now known as SarahWolf-dead <Mahou>: Is Kuromi even out yet? <Mike_Toole>: Nij: I'm using Postnuke as a springboard. Postnuke is great, but I need to make some significant tweaks to the reviews module before it's where I want it to be. <BizarroDX>: dead again <Mike_Toole>: Herbie: Nope, haven't gotten Kuromi yet. <Otakuman>: Maho: Next Tuesday
<Nijhazer>: Ah, OK. I just wrote ours from scratch.
<Nijhazer>: OK, new topic incoming. <Mahou>: Ah, so it is this month. Hoo boy, I cvan hear the screams of pain already.
<Nijhazer>: I want all of you bastages to go nuts on this one. <Nork22>: ooooo <Otakuman>: Mike: Ok i saw the Trailer to that, Lisa Ortiz sounds Hillarious <Stan>: Totoro and Castle of Cogliastro are both Dubs that I gave as gifts and were liked, but they did not overshadow the Japanese just equaled it in my and others view
*** Nijhazer changes topic to 'How important is lip sync to you?' <Geoduck>: Kuromi's in the mail for me. Hooray! <Mithrandir2k>: VERY. <Nork22>: not so much as long as it's not freaking obvious!!! <BizarroDX>: quite a bit <Mike_Toole>: It is important. I didn't think it was until I saw the Nazca dub, which had VERY loose lip sync.
<Nijhazer>: Some people say that lip sync is not very important to them at all. And dub studios such as NYAV Post follow this. <Mahou>: Less important than a natural delivery.
<Nijhazer>: To others, and to many LA studios, it's actually more important than anything else. <Geoduck>: It should be just as important to English dubs as it is to the original Japanese dub. <Mithrandir2k>: Aside from the fact it makes the show more believable, it also demonstrates an effort on the part of the actors and post-editting staff which is worthy of recongition. <Otakuman>: I have MUC Dub sounded fine to me
<Arxane>: Not incredibly important, but if I see someone speak when no one's lips move, then it feels sloppy <Mahou>: Geo: Only problem is, the japanese dub tends to be quite loose on lip sync.
<Nijhazer>: Otakuman: Berserk is really the dub where this is most evident <BizarroDX>: there are some Japanese dubs that are off too <Otakuman>: Plus Demon Fighter Kocho & Twin Signal <Otakuman>: Nijh: Not seen Beserk <Geoduck>: Mahou: I know. That's what I was quietly saying. I don't mind it being a little off...it's frequently a little off for the Japanese as well. <BizarroDX>: Berserk does have problems in this area <BizarroDX>: Plus all those stupid lines they added for Zodd
<Nijhazer>: I think that lip sync is extremely important. However, it's not so important that the content or context of a line should be changed to accomodate it.
*** DragonPup has joined #dubreview <Mike_Toole>: The Japanese dub with the worst lip synch I've ever seen is Explorer Woman Ray. HILARIOUSLY bad. <BizarroDX>: Hey DP <Otakuman>: Not Picked up SP Mito yet i'll get that soon since MB Dropped the Price on the DVDs <Mahou>: Hiya, Dragon
<Nijhazer>: Lip sync has been so important to so many dubs in the past few years that most dub studios have reached the point where they can have proper lip sync AND good acting. <DragonPup>: hey hey :>
<Nijhazer>: Although I think the Canadian studios still need work on this one...
* Mike_Toole posts Samurai Deeper Kyo review. man, only 13 reviews posted this month. Not enough, not enough. <BizarroDX>: I reviewed SDK <BizarroDX>: yay me! <Otakuman>: Mike: Isnt Kyo a NYAV Post Dub right?
<Nijhazer>: Yup
<Nijhazer>: A good one too <Mike_Toole>: Herbie: Yeah. I watched one episode. <DragonPup>: I didn't review nothing, but I got FMP3 early. :> <Mike_Toole>: Dubbed well. Too bad the series is for shit. <Mahou>: NYAV? <Stan>: I thought Wanabe's was graining on my ears as well and seemed way off, but it is an old anime
<Nijhazer>: I didn't think it was that bad. <Otakuman>: I hear Veronica Taylor is great in Kyo
<Nijhazer>: It's not great, but it's fun. <Nork22>: who does veronica play?
<Nijhazer>: The dub is pretty good, yeah. Dan Green's great, VT is great. <BizarroDX>: Yuya-san <BizarroDX>: Only Wayne Grayson bothered me
<Nijhazer>: I really need to review that one... <BizarroDX>: as Benitora <my personal favorite> <Mike_Toole>: I thought it was really tiresome. I didn't like the obvious yin-yang crap, Kyo's flashing kanji attack, or the impenetrable dialogue. I did like the goofy mixing of historical figures and literary characters. <Otakuman>: OH yeah Wayne Grayson is Joey in Yu Gi Oh & KId Muscle in Ultimate Muscle IIRC
<Nijhazer>: Ah yes, the flashing Kanji attack... <Mithrandir2k>: Well, I've braved through to 3:10am, but now I must sleep. <BizarroDX>: Mike: there is alot of "flashing kanji attack" from many characters, if it bothers you quit now <Mike_Toole>: yeah, which he always follows with that 'can you hear the wind?' catch phrase. he may as well say 'You are already dead.' <Mahou>: Night, Mith2k.
<Nijhazer>: Sorta like what they did in Kenshin, except without the blinking flash preceding the kanji characters. <BizarroDX>: Wayne better not crap up Beni's attack <Nork22>: so VT is benitora? <Mithrandir2k>: Later days, y'all
<Nijhazer>: Thanks for coming by, Mith <Nork22>: cyas mith
*** Mithrandir2k has left #dubreview
<Nijhazer>: Another good segue... <BizarroDX>: VT?
*** Raptor has joined #dubreview
*** Nijhazer changes topic to 'What's the WORST new anime series you've seen this year?' <Nork22>: bizarro: veronica Taylor
*** kris has joined #dubreview
*** ChanServ sets mode: +a kris
*** ChanServ sets mode: +o kris <Otakuman>: Hey kris <Stan>: Lip siync/Excel/Excel Saga,m she talks so fast the term does not apply tehe
<Arxane>: The WORST? <Raptor>: ohaiyo
<kris>: oy oy
<Nijhazer>: Now we officially have too many mods. =P <Mike_Toole>: Kyo is pretty inauspicious, but I don't think it's the worst... let me think. <Mahou>: Worst new series? <BizarroDX>: No VT plays Yuya!
<kris>: lol <BizarroDX>: the cute bounty hunter
*** kris sets mode: -o kris <Nork22>: ok ok... ahhh.... the blondy :D
<Nijhazer>: I was kidding! ;> <Mahou>: Hiya, kris. <kris>: wow, small crowd tonight <kris>: n/p nij, lol <Stan>: FIGHTING FOODONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <Mahou>: Big con weekend, kris.
<Nijhazer>: Well, there are two big conventions this weekend
<Arcturus>: You can re-op yourself, kris. <kris>: anime fest is still going on, well, kinda
* Arcturus laugs evilly <Otakuman>: LOL Fighting Foodons
<Arcturus>: *laughs
<Nijhazer>: I've been somewhat picky about the titles I buy this year <kris>: no, it's kewl arc, i don't need to be opped right now, y'all got it <BizarroDX>: fighting foodons...shiver...shiver...no I don't want to remember... <Otakuman>: Why NIJH? <Raptor>: hey, the FF finale was pretty good :P <Mahou>: Same here, Nij.
<Nijhazer>: So I haven't seen all that much in the way of new shows...
<Nijhazer>: Not much money. <Stan>: I woke up cried put the blanket over my head and turned off the tv
<Nijhazer>: However, out of what I have seen, the "worst" new show I've seen is probably Ai Yori Aoshi. <BizarroDX>: ...shiver... <Raptor>: baah, you don't know whats good ^_^ <Stan>: I think that is a concensis? <BizarroDX>: AYA had such good potential
<Nijhazer>: Oh, it was good. For four episodes. <Mike_Toole>: King of Bandit Jing is pretty rotten, too. About finished with the review of that one. <Nork22>: worse? probabily rizelmine <Mahou>: It's a good thing I tailor my purchases to particular tastes of mine. Helps me to avoid the other stuff real easily.
<Nijhazer>: Bandit King Jing is fun on a boring night. I was particularly bored when I reviewed it. <Otakuman>: Pretty bad huh Mike <Otakuman>: ? <Geoduck>: Luckily I haven't seen anything bad enough this year bad enough to be called worst. Although i came close to renting Great Dangaioh, which I heard is below average.
<Nijhazer>: Oh, wait. I take it back. <Mike_Toole>: Herbie: Not awful, but incredibly, INCREDIBLY boring. <Mahou>: I haven't really regretted any of the purchases I've made on anime.
<Nijhazer>: The worst thing I've seen this year is without a doubt Read or Die. <Otakuman>: Ah <Otakuman>: REally??
<Arxane>: I can't really say, since I haven't seen that many series, but if I HAD to pick one, I'd say the "Kikaider" OVAs
<Nijhazer>: Yup. <Geoduck>: Nijhazer: Die. <Mike_Toole>: there's no dramatic tension at all. JING ALWAYS WINS, and there is never any doubt of this. It's like a Billy Jack movie. <Otakuman>: I thought ROD Dub is great <Mahou>: I loved ROD!
* Geoduck sics Miss Deep on Nijhazer <Otakuman>: Kikaider OAV is good too <Mike_Toole>: I thoroughly enjoyed Read or Die. IMO, its only crime was trying to tell a big story in a small space.
<Nijhazer>: Oh, the dub's fine. And on that note the AYA dub is stupendous. <Raptor>: good =/= good show <Raptor>: +dub <Mahou>: Mike: Oh just wait for someone to liscense the ROD Tv series.
<Nijhazer>: ROD started out OK, then became tremendously stupid. <Mike_Toole>: Mahou: Pioneer. <Stan>: Read or Die was one of the most anricapated anime's of the year? What happened? <Otakuman>: I liked Kimberly Yates as Yomiko <Mike_Toole>: They announced it this past year.
<Nijhazer>: The world will be destroyed by a resurrected Beethoven. <Mike_Toole>: Nij: YES!! I love it. <BizarroDX>: look don't question it <Raptor>: LOL <Mahou>: MIke: Ah, that's good news. <Otakuman>: RO DReam was announnced at AX03 <BizarroDX>: If you think too hard it will hurt
* Mike_Toole just hopes Yomiko gets a lot of screen time in ROD tv. <Nork22>: lol <Geoduck>: Mike_Toole: Or...ANY. <Raptor>: did you all talk about BAAF allready? <Mahou>: Otaku: I must've missed that announcement from AX03 <Otakuman>: Mike: Not from what I read in NT USA <Mike_Toole>: I've heard that she's not the main character, but I remember an interview where the director is asked why she doesn't appear. And he responds, "Who says she doesn't appear?"
<Nijhazer>: Ah, and here's a lovely scene of the President of the U.S. pissing himself because he can't launch nukes for no reason. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! <Mahou>: It doesn't look like Yomiko will appear in ROD TV....at least not in the beginning. <Geoduck>: Mike_Toole: Yeah, I saw that one. It gave me hope.
<Nijhazer>: No discussion of BAAF <Geoduck>: Nijhazer: I'll grant that that particular running gag was tiresome. <Mahou>: Probably much later in teh series.
<Nijhazer>: That is, we haven't had any yet <Otakuman>: In Onegai Twins, Mizuho isnt in it
<Nijhazer>: The only thing I've seen about it was that the dealer room sucked, the hotel was too small and Tokyopop said some stuff about its manga titles <Otakuman>: From what I read <Nork22>: yes she is!! <Mahou>: Otaku: Yesm she is. <Geoduck>: Otakuman: Who says she isn't? <Otakuman>: Geo: NT <Nork22>: I say pics of her <Nork22>: in onegai twins <Geoduck>: Mizuho and Ichigo are in it. <Mahou>: So is the majority of the characters from the first series. <Otakuman>: Really? <Mike_Toole>: I didn't go to BAAF. Not enough money. I just went into town to see Tokyo Godfathers earlier in the week. <Mahou>: So are Kei, Matagu, and his sister. <Geoduck>: So you've got both the teenaged boys AND the lolicon freaks satisfied! :P <Mike_Toole>: I find it hard to believe that the Mariott Marquis was too small. That place is HUGE. Must've been a big turnout. <Otakuman>: Yeah I saw pics of BAAF On Fans View
<Nijhazer>: I don't doubt there was a huge turnout
<Nijhazer>: Hopefully someone will send us a nice report from the Anime Idol contest.
* Nork22 is listening to JAM Project featuring Kageyama - FIRE WARS <b:128kbps, s:44100hz, l:03:42> <Mahou>: Geo: Well...ah, nevermind. I'll let you find out on your own about Ichigo. =P
<Nijhazer>: BAAF had a huge turnout last year, in no small part because of the debut of the Cowboy Bebop movie <dubbed, haha!>
* Mike_Toole suddenly remembers that he owes Tom Wayland an email. <Geoduck>: Mahou: <I've seen the whole series. I know about Ichigo already> <Raptor>: no real announcements then? <Otakuman>: I chatted with Tom before Mike, Nice Guy
* Mike_Toole was there last year. It wasn't a bad little con. Dealer's room was awful, though-- swimming in bootlegs. <BizarroDX>: walla <Mike_Toole>: Herbie: He's a guitarist, like me. I need to talk guitars with him. ;-> <Mahou>: Geo: Ah, then there shouldn't be an issue for lolicon freaks concerning Ichigo. =P
*** DariusTAD Quit <Connection reset by peer>
<Nijhazer>: Some folks on the AoD board were complaining about BAAF, one of their primary complaints being that Noir was shown dubbed. <Geoduck>: Mahou: No issue. I'm just sayin' is all... <Otakuman>: MIke: From what Kevin Said the FIre Departmen was there to make sure the dealers room wasnt full <Raptor>: awww poor babies <Mike_Toole>: Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww. <Mahou>: Hmmm...The first volume of Scrapped PRincess is out now in Japan....so when is ADV going to announce it? <BizarroDX>: AoD pople seem to complain a lot <Nork22>: awwwwww..... <Otakuman>: Mike: Ahhh I see
* Mike_Toole doesn't care. Doesn't go to cons to watch videos.
* Raptor plays and invisible violin <Mahou>: Cry me a river, please. <Otakuman>: Oh WHOOP DE FRIGGIN Do For the complaints <Raptor>: alll the more reason for us to go :P <Nork22>: its like me, getting my club to watch some dubs... <Geoduck>: Crimea River?
<Nijhazer>: I'd like to see new shows at cons, though. That is, stuff that hasn't come out here yet. <Otakuman>: AX was Worse <Mike_Toole>: Herbie: That happened at Anime Boston. It was surprising-- I always hear talk of fire marshals showing up and grousing about crowds, but this time, the fire marshals were REALLY THERE and ready to put the kibosh on things. <Nork22>: only to be given a cold shower <Otakuman>: Mike: No kiddin?? <Mike_Toole>: Nij: Yeah, me too. At ACen, Pioneer had a checkdisc of the Heat Guy J dub. It wasn't on the schedule. I could not figure out why. <Otakuman>: Like who Biz?\ <Raptor>: i'd show dubs just to piss them off ^_^ <BizarroDX>: people <Mike_Toole>: Herbie: Yeah. They had to close the con to new attendees.. at 11:00am on saturday. damnedest thing. <Otakuman>: Heck there was a near riot at AX cuz Dub Vs Sub in the Video rooms <Otakuman>: Mike: OUCH <Mike_Toole>: ahahaha, that's awesome.
<Nijhazer>: Really? What show? <Geoduck>: Ooh, interesting quote from a BAAF report... "- a very strong allusion to the use of a California dubbing studio <Network?> for Tenchi GXP <6 discs, first disc available with box> was made in response to my question about the use of the original voices for episode 17 <BizarroDX>: AX is fun for that reason <Mahou>: It seems AoD <or most "purists" for that matter> will complain about anything that doesn't go their way. <Raptor>: GEOO: really??? cooool
<Nijhazer>: I really think that's just a small fraction of the anime community.
<Arcturus>: Geoduck: That's great! <Mike_Toole>: AoD forums have some nice folks, but SO. MUCH. WHINING. I don't go there very often. <Stan>: Now if we can have some comotion because subs are in the dub room <Mike_Toole>: and yeah, that's just a few people.
<Nijhazer>: The people that would be most vocal would be the ones to go on message boards and at cons. <Otakuman>: NIJH: Dont remember what anime Was showin
<Nijhazer>: Most folks would probably be OK about it.
<Arxane>: Nij: Amen to that
<Nijhazer>: The folks I ran into on the AoD board, some of them were bad enough to drive me off. But most of them were pretty cool. <Otakuman>: Geo: So Funi WONT Be using their studios for GXP? <Nork22>: got a question about cons, do u think its right to have a sub room and a dub room for anime?
* kris only goes to AoD to make chat announcements
<Nijhazer>: Heck, I ran into Arc and Martialstax there. <kris>: if i remember <Raptor>: MB = havens for B****ers
<Nijhazer>: Nork: I don't see the point
<Arcturus>: Otakuman: That hasn't been confirmed. <Geoduck>: Otakuman: Well, I'd prefer to see confirmation <Otakuman>: Arc: oh
<Nijhazer>: I would argue, though, that there should be two separate showings, with the times for both listed <Otakuman>: Trure <Mike_Toole>: If I ran the video room, I'd just specify in the program which version was shown, and that's what would run. <Raptor>: Nij: i agree <Mahou>: Nork: A room for dubs and a room for subs? I think we had something like that at NDK. <Mike_Toole>: I wouldn't bother with separate dub and sub tracks. Too complicated. <Mike_Toole>: better to run a mix of the two and show more titles. <Mahou>: Or at least a room that showed dubs at least some of the time <Nork22>: of course the rooms would be showing 2 different shows at the same time <Stan>: I think that it is great for a childrens room because not all kids can read that fast. Other than that, it is just the show that counts <Otakuman>: I show the dub & if purists dont like it, LEAVE <Otakuman>: LOL
<Nijhazer>: I seem to recall...
<Nijhazer>: In one of his posts on AoD I think Kyle Hebert was referring to the "upcoming auditions for Tenchi" <Raptor>: LOL rigth on otakuman <BizarroDX>: Otaku: fight on...FOR JUSTICE! <Geoduck>: Problem: just about ever viewing room I've ever been does not have raked seating, making subtitles nigh-impossible to read except for people at or near the front. <Otakuman>: YUP YUP!!! <Mike_Toole>: Stan: Well, yeah. I like it when cons have a 'saturday morning cartoon' video room that shows kids' anime dubbed on SatAM. Good way to wake up and chill out before the con gets going. <Nork22>: it's only because this year at our convention we have 2 rooms... dub and sub, while previous years it was a dubbed only room..
<Nijhazer>: That was a while back... and he was referring to holding the auditions at FUNimation, not in LA <Otakuman>: Biz: Are you going to Anime LA? <BizarroDX>: ummm...I don't know <Otakuman>: www.anime-la.org
<Nijhazer>: I don't see why they'd move it to L.A. just for the old cast cameos... Aren't those cameos only a few seconds long and only in one ep isode? <BizarroDX>: when, where, etc? <Mike_Toole>: Geoduck: That's half of the problem. The screens aren't set properly in rooms like that, either. It's very easy to just raise the screen and the projector another foot. <kris>: here is a pretty stupid question <Otakuman>: I put the URL up <kris>: do you call it exclamation point or exclamation mark?
<Nijhazer>: Exclamation point <Raptor>: isn't washu in it for a good bit? <BizarroDX>: I saw too late <Nork22>: exclamation mark <Mike_Toole>: I call it exclamation point, as opposed to question mark. ;->
* kris is editing chat transcripts <DragonPup>: kris, I call it a mark, sometimes a point though. Guess it depends on the context
<Arxane>: Point. The Question Mark has got a patent on the word "Mark" <kris>: what about marky mark? <Mahou>: exclamation point does sound more proper. <Otakuman>: LOL @ kri <kris>: and his calvin's...
<Nijhazer>: or Mark Abersold. <kris>: oooooooooooh <Mahou>: And leave Mark Walhberg out of this. =P
* kris wonders if mr. abersold wears calvins <kris>: lol <Geoduck>: Mahou: How about the Funky Bunch? <Mahou>: Geo: No, dammit! =P <Otakuman>: What about S Man on DVD? <Geoduck>: Arcturus: Do you have a Funky Bunch? <Mahou>: Or I'll go Brady Bunch on you. =P
<Arcturus>: Geoduck: Well, not with me. <BizarroDX>: it's in January, I havne't planned out nexty week yet
<Arxane>: I don't have a Funky Bunch, but I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts
<Nijhazer>: Diddle-dee-dee. <Raptor>: walla <BizarroDX>: walla <DragonPup>: Kris, I got the definitive answer on the exclamation thing... <Mahou>: argh <DragonPup>: http://www.googlefight.com/cgi-bin/compare.pl?q1=%22exclamation+point%22&q2=%22exclamation+mark%22&B1=Make+a+fight%21&compare=1&langue=us <DragonPup>: Google settles all <Otakuman>: Biz: Went to the site huh? <kris>: was ist dos? <Mahou>: Google Love conquers all? <kris>: googlefight? <DragonPup>: follow linka nd see :p <Raptor>: i was wondering about GXP <BizarroDX>: yep <BizarroDX>: OM: yep <DragonPup>: A google for "exclamation point" returned roughly 154,000 results. "exclamation mark got 107,000". Therefore point wins <Otakuman>: Ahh ok <BizarroDX>: Otaku: It could be interesting, but I'm so just trying to deal with the start of school <Mahou>: Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay......... <Otakuman>: Yeah isnt Kyle at AF?
<Nijhazer>: Yup. <Otakuman>: Biz: oh <kris>: yup <kris>: well, nope <kris>: not now <Stan>: Is GPX going to be a great hit or the non airing of Tenchi making it last decades hit? <Mahou>: So basically, all of our regular VAs are either at BAAF or AF?
* Raptor still wants to know whoo got OVA3
<Nijhazer>: Or just elsewhere.
<Nijhazer>: But yeah. <Otakuman>: Funi has it I bet they do <kris>: hey, what the hell is igpx? <kris>: or whatever that commericla is for?
<Nijhazer>: A lot of our VAs come from Texas, so they'd be at Anime Fest. The rest of our regulars come from New York, so they'd be at BAAF.
<Arxane>: Kris: Part of an immersion event for Toonami. <Raptor>: some Cn shorts i think
<Arxane>: They're made specifically for CN by IG Productions
<Nijhazer>: Then there's JK, who probably will show up at soon as the chat's over. <Mahou>: Otakuman: I'll see that bet and raise ya! <Otakuman>: Mahou: LOL <Mahou>: >=D <Raptor>: i'd like to see more NY VAs here <kris>: oh, ok <BizarroDX>: hm <Otakuman>: Ahh yes
*** Nijhazer changes topic to 'What anime series needs to be on TV?' <Geoduck>: Magic Knight Rayearth! <Raptor>: slayers <for broadcasat
<Nijhazer>: i'm referring to shows that haven't aired yet. Shows that have aired on Anime Network don't count. <Geoduck>: It would need no editing. <Otakuman>: LOVE HINA ON AS!! <DragonPup>: Read or Die <Mahou>: Oh! Speaking of NY VAs, Carol Jacobanis will be at NDK. I'm SO pumped!
* Otakuman LOL <Nork22>: PRINCESS NINE!!!! <Raptor>: bastard!! <Raptor>: on AS
<Arxane>: Witch Hunter Robin <Raptor>: pretty sammy <Geoduck>: A newly dubbed version of Cardcaptor Sakura, featuring Pioneer's Movie 2 cast. <kris>: yeah, p9 <Mike_Toole>: Anime that should be on TV. Man, a year ago, I would've said Cyborg 009, but I got my wish. <Otakuman>: Maho: Ohh yeah!!! Carol RULZ as Harumi in Tylor <Stan>: Slayers is on International channel but that is not widely seen
<Nijhazer>: Princess Nine would get my vote except that I think it would exclude almost everyone.
<Nijhazer>: Tylor needs to be on TV. <Mike_Toole>: Tylor's been on cable. <Raptor>: OMG <Mike_Toole>: I-Channel. <BizarroDX>: yep
<Nijhazer>: International Channel>? <Nork22>: haibane renmei? <BizarroDX>: Hunter X Hunter...oh wait...nevermind <Raptor>: but very few people get it <Stan>: P9, Angelic Layer, VanDred <Otakuman>: LOL <Mike_Toole>: Haibane Renmei is awesome, but I'm not sure how well it would fly on cable. <kris>: lain would be good on scifi, if unedited <Raptor>: ranma :P <Mike_Toole>: Vandread would be nice to see on TV, if they ran all 26 episodes.
<Nijhazer>: A re-dubbed Nadesico could work. <BizarroDX>: Lain was on Tech TV <Raptor>: lain is on techtv <Otakuman>: I can see Vandread on as
*** lightningcount has joined #dubreview <Stan>: But having it on IC may prevent other networks from picking it up <Mike_Toole>: If we're going to go for stuff as old as Ranma, Dunbine would be neat, too. <Mahou>: Raptor: Why not? CN is running Inuyasha <Nork22>: devil lady!! on a late night run... <lightningcount>: hey
* Nork22 remembers Spawn....
<Nijhazer>: Welcome, LC <lightningcount>: what discussion <Mahou>: And why would Nadesico have to be re-dubbed?
<Arxane>: Adult Swim specifically stated Ranma would never run on there <Raptor>: Mahou: ? <Otakuman>: Arx: Thats a no brainer <Otakuman>: lol <Raptor>: oh <BizarroDX>: walla
<Nijhazer>: I can only speak from my own experience, but the Nadesico dub prevented me from watching the rest of the series until recently, and then only because I got the DVDs and watched it in Japanese. <lightningcount>: hmm shows that i wish to see on tv? hmm
<Nijhazer>: I think I'm the only one on staff that doesn't like that dub, though. <Geoduck>: Nijhazer: Yeah. Freak. <Otakuman>: I though thedub is good <Mahou>: I liked the Nadesico dub. <Otakuman>: AKITOOOOO!!-Yurika <Raptor>: hellsing <Otakuman>: Hehehe <Nork22>: the dub was good.... then along came hilary haag, she rulz!!!
<Arxane>: I actually saw one piece of the Nadesico dub...and didn't like it. <lightningcount>: theres so many things that should be on tv
* Mike_Toole liked Brett Weaver's Gai and Jennifer Darling's Yurika, but that's about it. <BizarroDX>: L/R <lightningcount>: FRUITS BASKET <Mahou>: I hope they bring back the cast for the movie.
<Nijhazer>: Jennifer Darling? <Otakuman>: Mike: Jennifer K Erhart
<Arxane>: How do you pronounced the word "Nadesico"? <BizarroDX>: ooooh, FruBa!
* Mike_Toole is mixing up his Jennifers.
* Arcturus is a fan of the Nadesico dub
<Nijhazer>: Now that would be interesting... <Mahou>: Na-de-shi-ko <DragonPup>: Arx, Na-Sed-co
<Nijhazer>: Fruits Basket is a phenomenal show that would do well in an after-school timeslot. <DragonPup>: er, Na-Des-co <BizarroDX>: I'm one of the few who likes Jen Erhart's voice <Otakuman>: Jennifer Darling is Ayeka's VA <Otakuman>: Hehe
<Nijhazer>: Guys wouldn't watch it, though. <Mahou>: at least, that;s how it was pronounced in the japanese version. <Mike_Toole>: Herbie: Yeah, I realized that as soon as I typed it. <lightningcount>: no i did and ya i'm not gay so lol <Stan>: I want to be an Angel, Pita Ten <if/when it is dubed>, Magical Shoping District Mini Goddesses are all needed to be on TV as there sould be some non violent and female leads to sweeten the TV mix
<Nijhazer>: Oh, I liked it, too. But I'm 23.
<Nijhazer>: And I've seen plenty of shoujo anime before. <Raptor>: magical project S <dubbed ofcourse> <Nork22>: kare kano on TV? <DragonPup>: Shoujo is the equivilent to 'chick flickish', right? <Otakuman>: Pita ten hasnr been picked up <Mahou>: His & Her Cirumstances <Geoduck>: Whoa...Charles Bronson died. <BizarroDX>: I doubt anthing with a non violent female lead will ever make it onto TV, anime wise
<Nijhazer>: If you want something to be a hit on Cartoon Network you have to consider what shows have made it big on there and why. <Raptor>: GEO: what? <lightningcount>: there were a number of guys at the shojo pannel yesterday at baaf <Otakuman>: Look at Sailor Moon Biz <Otakuman>: Hehe
<Nijhazer>: Charlie Bronson died? Not surprising... a few weeks ago they said he couldn't remember anything about himself. <Mike_Toole>: Yeah, Bronson died last week, didn't he? <BizarroDX>: Yep, it's off the air, thank God <Mahou>: Now Sailor Moon, there's an anime in desperate need of a re-dubbing. =P <Raptor>: Biz: don't bad mouth my Lita <Geoduck>: Mike_Toole: Yesterday.
<Nijhazer>: Technically that's last week <Mike_Toole>: Oh, right. I'd heard about him recently because of the alzheimer's. <Otakuman>: Oh the dub is fine with me <Raptor>: Mahou: only the S and SS <BizarroDX>: Rap: sorry, I'm not into Magical Girl shows <Mahou>: At least with the proper script.
* Geoduck needs to rewatch "The Great Escape" <Otakuman>: Raptor: Like Susan Roman huh? Hehe <Mahou>: Raptor: Haven't seen S & SS. <Raptor>: like lita hehehe <Raptor>: she good too <DragonPup>: btw, did anyone see Teen Titans tonight/last night? <lightningcount>: oh some interesting dub tidbits i picked up yesterday at baaf Mike Sinternicoulous made an off hand remark about considdering group dubbing <Mike_Toole>: yes, my favorite Charles Bronson performance was him as the Tunnel King. <DragonPup>: They sung the opening song in japanese <Mahou>: Group dubbing? <Otakuman>: LC: No kiddin?? <Mike_Toole>: That's Puffy doing the OP, right?
<Nijhazer>: WTF?!
<Nijhazer>: NEWS! <Raptor>: lightning?
*** JK has joined #dubreview <kris>: hola jk <Mike_Toole>: Hiya, JK! <Mahou>: JK! <kris>: wassup? <Otakuman>: Hey JK <JK>: Hi all! <Stan>: I think that Nia Under7 P9 and some others might make a good fir in Starz Wam or some other networks for tween or beforeage target <Raptor>: ;_;
*** Nijhazer changes topic to 'Monica Rial to star in FUNimation Kiddy Grade dub' <BizarroDX>: JK sir, welcome master <Raptor>: cool <Mahou>: Let me guess: Eclair? <JK>: Thanks Biz
<Arxane>: Monica Rial in a Funi dub? Kick ass <Nork22>: wheee!!!
<Nijhazer>: Lumiere <Mike_Toole>: JK directed Haibane Renmei dub. Haibane Renmei dub good. Fire good. Arrrrrr.
<Nijhazer>: Welcome, JK <Mahou>: Damn! Well, that's not bad either. =P <DragonPup>: I though Funi dubbed in Canada? <Nork22>: I want kiddy grade now!!! <Raptor>: texaas
<Nijhazer>: Uh, no; they're in Texas. <lightningcount>: hey jk <DragonPup>: ahhh
<Nijhazer>: Time to add this to the front page. <BizarroDX>: nope good ol' Dallas TX <JK>: Thanks Mike, I appreciated your fine review <Otakuman>: MONICA IS IN KG?????? <Stan>: I have never heard what Kiddy Grade is <lightningcount>: so ya he really said he was considdering doing group dubbing but the biggest problem he'd have to resolve is scheduling
<Arcturus>: Monica in Kiddy Grade? <BizarroDX>: I could see Monica-sama in there <Geoduck>: Monica Rial is in Kiddy Porn! I mean, Kiddy Grade! <Mahou>: Hmmm...I've seen a few episodes of KG on the R2 side. <Mahou>: LOL @ GEo <Mike_Toole>: JK: Please keep using Zarah Little. She was excellent as Chiaki in NieA_7, and great as Kana in Haibane. <Nork22>: speaking of monica... PANTIES!!!! <Mahou>: Didn't enjoy KG that much... <Nork22>: finally got my najica box...
<Arxane>: Nork: You're thinking of Najica <kris>: monica is in me? <Otakuman>: Funi is in Ft.Worh
* kris thinks that's an odd statement <Raptor>: walla <BizarroDX>: eh? <JK>: I like Zarah, too. She's great. <BizarroDX>: walla
* kris maybe flip it around... >=> <Geoduck>: <---Anxiously awaiting his Haibane Renmei box. Wishing to listen to Zarah Little. <BizarroDX>: Oh, not Dallas, my bad <Otakuman>: Its OK <Raptor>: dallas/fortworth <Nork22>: arx: yeah, to the discomfort fo my club ^^ <Otakuman>: Its Ft. Worth <Geoduck>: Chiaki was my favorite character in NieA, and Zarah was a major reason why. <BizarroDX>: so am I right or wrong? <Mike_Toole>: Geo: Ditto.
* Mahou is trying to remember which NGP dubbed anime he watched earlier today... <lightningcount>: so j.k what do you think of that idea it was said at baaf by Mike sinternicoulous of nyav poast
* Mike_Toole has a big soft spot for NieA_7 in general, partly because it's his favorite of the websites he created for Pioneer.
<Arxane>: Okay, I gotta head out. I havta eat something before I wither away <Mike_Toole>: lc: Sinterniklaas. ;-> <lightningcount>: that he wanted to try dubbing with the cast together <Geoduck>: Bye, Arxane. <Otakuman>: Bye Arx <Nork22>: cyas arx <BizarroDX>: cye arx <BizarroDX>: walla?
*** Arxane Quit <Cast in the Name of God Ye Not Stupid> <Mahou>: Group Dubbing. Now THAT would make one hell of an outtake reel. <JK>: Lignting, I don't know what idea you're talking about, please elaborate? <Otakuman>: LOL <DragonPup>: So... am I the only one who finds it ironic that Spike Spencer plays Takuma in Full Metal panic 3? <lightningcount>: and oh is nyav good w/ outtakes <lightningcount>: lol <Raptor>: LC: what has he been working on <besides 4kids stuff>
* Mike_Toole hasn't seem FMP vol. 3 yet. <Otakuman>: Is he a Shinj Clone? <kris>: oh hey JK <Otakuman>: LOL <lightningcount>: ya on the sdk vol 1 dbvd that trailor that was completely off the top of there heads when mike and an actor got bored
* Mahou hasn't seen FMP at all
* Nork22 hasn't seem FMP vol3 as well <Mike_Toole>: ADV owe me a box o' stuff. I NEED to review Mazinkaiser. <kris>: along the lines of what I emailed you about earlier this week? <DragonPup>: Otaku, close, sorts! <Stan>: That would bew worth at least a thousand guests at an anime con if they had an out take panel of that <BizarroDX>: the trailer was the best of the outtakes on SDK 1 <lightningcount>: but ya he is very cool i wanted to tell him bout dubreview but there was no way we were getting near them <DragonPup>: Spike did a nice job as Takuma <Otakuman>: I cant wait for the Pretear dub <Mahou>: Though, trying to group dub together would take some work and rythmn I think. <Mike_Toole>: Pretear is a rather outstanding majokko series. It'll be fun to see it again. <I have the R3 DVD.>
<Nijhazer>: ADV needs to send us more review copies than they have been <i.e. zero>
<Nijhazer>: =P <BizarroDX>: It would take some getting used to <Raptor>: has their been a cast list released for knight of the zodiac yet? <lightningcount>: he is quite cool and funny he plays a guy named Tray in the shaman king dub you should have heard the dub names for shk
* Mahou wants to see Pretear...BADLY! <Raptor>: LC: yeah i saww them <Mike_Toole>: Nij: They're pretty selective, actually. EVERYONE bugs them for review stuff. Just keep asking. <lightningcount>: don't remember them all but man did they suck <Otakuman>: Raptor its been posted on the AOND Forums <Stan>: I would like to do some reviews for you guys but i would review the work as a hile plot/character/sub/dub not just dub point of view <Raptor>: LC: wiat caast names or character names? <Otakuman>: Luci Christian as Himeno <lightningcount>: Morty, Tray Razer were the only ones who stick in my mind he said the toylate jokes will run for about 5 eps then simmer down <Otakuman>: lol <lightningcount>: missed koz do to con and shk <Geoduck>: Nijhazer: Get some embarrassing photos of David Williams and blackmail him with them! Oh wait, I forgot that he has no shame. That won't work, then. D'oh.
* Arcturus is away -< And poof! I disappear. >- at 08:51p -< P:Off / L:Off >- <Mahou>: I seem to be far too open-minded to review a dub.
* Raptor thouighyt the shaman king dub was prettty good <lightningcount>: he was like "i personally find it funny but have a feeling its gona piss the fans off " or something <Mike_Toole>: Right, because you need to be closed-minded to review something! ;-> <Raptor>: love the OP <Otakuman>: Hehe I'll be laughing if Lisa in SK <Shes in the Sonic X dub> <Otakuman>: Hehe <lightningcount>: ohh i can't wait for this weekend to see it does it air this week <JK>: Hey Mike, did you ever watch the Spirit of Wonder dub when you did the reveiw? <Raptor>: yep, shes in additional voices <lightningcount>: was it similar to the japanese the sonic dx wasn't to far off <Mahou>: Mike: Well, not so much that. I'd just let the script get away with a lot more things than I've seen most reviews do. <Otakuman>: www.foxbox.tv <lightningcount>: the op is up there? <Mike_Toole>: JK: Unfortunately, no. I know you guys handled it, but I watched it back-to-back with the original OVA-- and when I realized that they got the original Japanese cast for the new one, I felt compelled to stick with that language option.
* Geoduck wonders if anyone is going to relicense the original OVA. <Raptor>: september 6th is the premiere <Mahou>: Didn't Animeigo have the original Spirit of Wonder a long time agoi? <Mahou>: *ago <Mike_Toole>: Mahou: I try to take it on a case-by-case basis. I do think some rewrites drastically improve the material <Shinesman, for example> but I get ticked if it seems like script rewrites are messing with the quality of a show. <Mike_Toole>: Mahou: Yeah. They released it to DVD-- one printing. Then their license lapsed, and they haven't relicensed it. <Stan>: Yes they did, the OVA or movie I have it on VHS
* Geoduck is glad he picked up that disk while he could <lightningcount>: so is the shk op on the site? <Mahou>: Mike: I can agree with that. The problem becomes what one considers okay may not be okay for a lot of people. <Raptor>: i dunno <lightningcount>: i heard the promo and it sounded cool
* Stan High fives TM on Shinesman <Raptor>: rewirtes don't bother me as i alwaays watch the dub first. so i don';t compare it <Mahou>: Or rather, the reason why I like something may be the reason another person utterly hates it.
<Nijhazer>: Stan: We also tackle the content of a show in our reviews, but we focus on the dub, as that's what our reviews are supposed to pertain to. <forgive the preposition> <lightningcount>: hmm anything else from the va pannel not really it was funny though <Otakuman>: Ok Anyone like EPF Dub? <lightningcount>: the whole con was fun though <Otakuman>: Hehe <Mahou>: I try not to compare, but at times it does happen. <Mahou>: EPF? <Otakuman>: Elf Princess Rane
<Nijhazer>: Mahou: Yeah, we need to be critical for our reviews since that's what we do. But for a reader review you can write whatever you think, critical or otherwise. <Mike_Toole>: It's often dependent on the material. I felt like the Orphen dub diminished the quality of the show. On the other hand, I love the dub for Ultimate Muscle, which takes just as many liberties. <JK>: Unfortunately you can never win with some people whether or not you do a re-write for the dub. <Mike_Toole>: I wish 4Kids would release Ultimate Muscle on DVD, so I'd have an excuse to review it. <Mahou>: Wouldn't that be EPR? <Raptor>: yeah. i love UM <Nork22>: im off now cyas <Otakuman>: Mike: Im sure they'll realease it <JK>: By Nork <Raptor>: FUNi should be releasing the dvds off it <lightningcount>: my guess shk takes as many liberties because he ketp talking bout toylate humor <Geoduck>: Elf Princess Rane is one of the miracles of dubbing.
<Nijhazer>: My personal opinion on rewrites is that I need to understand why they're done. With NewGen dubs we're lucky; if there's something we have doubts about in a script, we can email him and get his explanation before posting a review <wish I had known to do this before reviewing Hellsing Vol. 1> <Otakuman>: Heck the UM Video Game is comming soon for the GaneCube <Mike_Toole>: My favorite bits are the ringside commentary. "The clock is ticking, Doc-- but there's still no Kid!" "Sounds like my marriage, Mac!"
*** Nork22 Quit
* Mike_Toole loved the Hellsing dub. Too bad the show went south so quickly. <Stan>: Me, me, Like Dragon Half and Shinesman, EPR is fun and campy in its own way Fast and chopy seems to fit the shoe like it did Speed Racer <Otakuman>: Oh DH ROCKS!!! <Raptor>: mike: LOL <lightningcount>: well i'm suprised some lines they got away w/ on kids tv in um <Otakuman>: lol
* Raptor still liikes "maay those ball roolliith you to victoory" <Raptor>: hehehe <Mike_Toole>: lc: Yeah. That line I just transcribed was great-- I had to turn it over in my head for a moment, then burst out laughing. <Mahou>: lc: Well...considering it's a wrestling show and a lot of kids tend to watch WWE as well... <Stan>: show <lightningcount>: how was the koz kingits of the zodiac dub?\ <Otakuman>: It was good <Mike_Toole>: Have they started with the new episodes of Ultimate Muscle yet? I'm curious to see those, since they're produced exclusively for the American audience. <JK>: Hey mike, who did the reveiw of Hellsing, you or Christian Nutt? <Mike_Toole>: JK: Dave Merrill, actually. <Raptor>: mike: i don't thiunk so 00]<BizarroDX>: Vatican section 13, my inspirition 00]<Raptor>: after ep 50 00]<JK>: He wasn't a big fan of the show. 00]<Mike_Toole>: He didn't really like the show from the outset. I liked the first three episodes, but felt that the quality of the show <not the dubbing, which was good throughout> really slipped. 00] <Nijhazer>: Hellsing was somewhat of a style over substance thing for me. 00]<lightningcount>: well the only foxbox dub thus far i disliked was fighting footons 00] <Nijhazer>: The ending sucked, but the rest of it was great for what it was. 00]<kris>: big-o 00]<lightningcount>: the ultraman dub was good got a way w/ a bit to but didn't make it for some reason 00] *** kris is now known as big-kris-o 00]<Mahou>: I haven't watched much of FoxBox...except for TMNT. 00]<Otakuman>: Why FF Nijh? <Raptor>: but thats one reason i'd like to be ablle to talk to some of thhe regular 4kids VAs. to ask them what they hink. and to get some insite into the decisioin making there
<Nijhazer>: FF? <BizarroDX>: TMNT is good as long as the op is skipped <Otakuman>: Fighting Foodons <Mike_Toole>: Nij: I thought that the show established a great adversary character in Anderson... and then promptly ignored him to focus on Guy Incognito, there.
<Nijhazer>: I didn't say anything about Fighting Foodons... <Mike_Toole>: "My name's not Homer Simpson-- I'm Guy Incognito!"
<Nijhazer>: Good point, but that didn't really bother me much. <Otakuman>: OOops sorry I meant LC <Mahou>: LOL <BizarroDX>: Anderson doesn't have much time in the Manga either <lightningcount>: i said i wasn't fond of it
<Nijhazer>: But that's one of the things I meant about the ending sucking. <Otakuman>: OH <BizarroDX>: I wanted Nazis and all i got was a stupid vampire <lightningcount>: the show itself anoys me so ya but kurby was bad to and well 2 or 3 of 4kids people were at baaf <JK>: We'll we just have to hope for a 2nd season.
<Nijhazer>: Anderson vs. Alucard never really ended, he just fought a big dork who made cool neon lines instead. <Geoduck>: Well, it would be pretty tough to top the Valentine Brothers arc. <Mike_Toole>: JK: Yeah, I would like to see a second season. <BizarroDX>: JK: oh yes
<Nijhazer>: More of Hellsing would definitely be welcomed. <Otakuman>: Interesting to see Funky Cops <Mike_Toole>: yeah, the valentine brothers stuff was also nice. <Otakuman>: Hehe <Mahou>: Or at least some Hellsing manga. <Raptor>: Otaku: did you see the preview ep? <lightningcount>: what is funky cops? <BizarroDX>: the hellsing Nazi's a just cool, they have monsters of every shape and size <Stan>: If to tie up all the loose ends and get the plot back on tract <Otakuman>: Did anyone read the TP Manga Annoucements from BAAF? <BizarroDX>: ...and they all die! <lightningcount>: was that 4kids produced? <Raptor>: oh that is funny as hhell <Stan>: Nope <Mahou>: Otaku: I did... <DragonPup>: What announcements?
<Nijhazer>: Another nice segue... <Raptor>: cheezy, very cheezy, but funny
*** Nijhazer changes topic to 'Best / Worst Anime Endings' <Otakuman>: Not seen Ep <Raptor>: and its whorth it to hear eric stuart singing punk.metaal <Stan>: Where can we see this at all? <lightningcount>: so where did funky cops come from? i was just gona ignore it <Mahou>: El Hazard, the first OVA series. Best. HEA ending. EVER. <Otakuman>: Hehe Eric Stuart
<Nijhazer>: Best: Cowboy Bebop. Worst: Used to be Escaflowne; now Berserk, easy. <lightningcount>: where was it made <Mike_Toole>: Mahou: HEA ending...? <Raptor>: not sure. its not anime though <Mahou>: Mike: Happy Ever After <Geoduck>: Best Ending: Gunbuster. 2nd Best: The Irresponsible Captain Tylor <Mahou>: *Happily <lightningcount>: i figured and kubix was all over baaf arrgh how anoying
<Nijhazer>: Tylor ended well, except that the OVAs continued it and they didn't really have a conclusion. <DragonPup>: FLCL has a real good ending <Mahou>: It's what I call romantic endings. <Raptor>: mmmm cel-shaded CGI character dancing disco <Otakuman>: Cubix is good <BizarroDX>: I didn't like the Silent Mobius ending <Otakuman>: Liked Rachael Lillis in that one <Stan>: Ending songs or anime? <Mike_Toole>: Mahou: Yeah, to the point that it kind of crippled subsequent outings. I found the Alternate World stuff to be modestly entertaining, but kept thinking, "Why do they keep setting Makoto up with other girls? We already KNOW he's spoken for!" <Geoduck>: The Video Girl Ai ending confused the hell out of me. <Raptor>: digimon frontier needed more <Mike_Toole>: Nij: It's concluded in the Tylor novels, which we'll probably never see in English.
<Nijhazer>: So I've heard... <Otakuman>: MIke: Yeah he shoulda told em off <Otakuman>: LOL <BizarroDX>: Read VG Ai, it is soooo good <lightningcount>: the digimon 4 ending was rather laim especially coming off tamers ending <Mahou>: Mike: True.
<Nijhazer>: And Berserk's AAAAAAAAAAUGH ending is taken further with the manga, which isn't in English. <Geoduck>: Worst ending: Any 2-episode OVA series based on a long-running manga. <Raptor>: yep <Mike_Toole>: Geoduck: MIGHTY SPACE MINERS
* Mike_Toole shoots KSS in the face. <Otakuman>: Its comming in English NIJH <Stan>: Nia Under7 It ended as it were going to be another half. Not much seemed to be resolved with the characters and I was only half satisfied
<Nijhazer>: Otakuman: Dark Horse has only licensed the first three volumes; the manga doesn't catch up to the anime until vol. 14 or so <Raptor>: nightmaare campus <BizarroDX>: Berserk manga, so good, but you'll have to wait till vol 14 or so before you see new stuff <lightningcount>: the ending to zoids was kind of bla <Mahou>: The biggest problem I have with Love Hina is the fact that they go through ALL of those TV and OVA episodes and STILL didn't get to the manga ending. <BizarroDX>: execpt the beginning is a little expanded too <Otakuman>: Perhaps they'll get more if people demand it <Otakuman>: HEhe <BizarroDX>: flashback doesn't start till vol 3 <Mike_Toole>: Mahou: There's barely any story progression at all. That's why I find so infuriating about the show.
<Nijhazer>: Well, with Love Hina every time they try to resolve things, they fake it out again <Stan>: Slayers Next for best anime endings <JK>: Stan: The point of NieA's ending is that life goes on. <Mike_Toole>: As for good endings, hmmmm. Maison Ikkoku is a contender. <Raptor>: yeah <Otakuman>: I liked Try Ending
*** [DR]Nij has joined #dubreview - Clones: 2 from [DR]Nij <Nijhazer> CtrlF1 whois; ShiftF8 ping; F8 to punish <Mahou>: Mike: Agreed about both LH and Maison. <BizarroDX>: Trigun's ending, it's just so symbolic <Mike_Toole>: Stan: Yeah, the open-ended ending for NieA just followed the theme of the show. <Raptor>: Sailor moon R <Geoduck>: Oh yeah, Slayers Next had a good ending. The Slayers Try ending must contain a memory-erasing ray, because for the life of me, I can never remember how it ended. <Mike_Toole>: Cowboy Bebop ending was also excellent. <Stan>: JK: I agree but that is why I was inly half satisfied. It left a void for maore. <lightningcount>: we need a fruitsbasket dub soundtrack <lightningcount>: i baught the japanese one <[DR]Nij>: AGREED, LC <Mike_Toole>: Also, the ending of the first Big O season... but only because I found out that it was deliberate. ;-> <Mahou>: Worst ending? Rurouni Kenshin. <[DR]Nij>: Fruits Basket has the best dubbed music ever <[DR]Nij>: Mahou, that one's close... but clearly you have not seen Berserk <Otakuman>: Yeah a Dub OST of ALL FUNI ANIME <Mahou>: If only for teh fact that they didn't use the manga ending on THAT one as well. <JK>: stan: I think that if we were to see more, it would have been more of the same, that's what NieA was kinda saying. <lightningcount>: it does <Geoduck>: Fruits Basket had a good ending, particularly since it involved an unfinished manga. <Mahou>: Nij: Haven't seen it's ending. <Mike_Toole>: Stan: Also, weren't a lot of the characters in NieA_7 only half-satisfied? ;-> <Mahou>: I may not plan on it, either. <Geoduck>: Mahou: I thought the TV final episode was good. Are you referring to OVA2? <lightningcount>: fruits basket had a rather bla ending it just ended there nothing extraordinary excluding the whole thing w/ Kyo <Stan>: Best movie: Tenchi in Live. WOW seeing how the girls and espicially cared for Tenchi and his mother was great <[DR]Nij>: Well, the manga is still going <[DR]Nij>: And in the manga they apparently still haven't explained the origin of the Zodiac curse <Mike_Toole>: Oh, Battle Athletes Victory ending was pretty amusing.
*** BigPants has joined #dubreview <Otakuman>: Hevens knows when IY is gonna end <[DR]Nij>: Yes, well...
* Mike_Toole loves shows with false endings like that. <[DR]Nij>: Welcome, Pants <Otakuman>: ool <lightningcount>: they could continue fb then <Geoduck>: lightningcount: Well, again, the manga is ongoing. I thought they did very well with what they had. The Kyo story was probably the high point of the manga at that time. <BigPants>: Hey Nij! <Otakuman>: Heya BP <[DR]Nij>: The last disc of BAV was like, "What the hell?" <JK>: Hey pants <BigPants>: Otaku! <Mike_Toole>: Nij: Exactly. That's why I liked it so much. <lightningcount>: i thaught that to but i'd like more <Mike_Toole>: It was completely out of left field. <[DR]Nij>: The ensuing situation there creates one of the best dub lined ever <Mahou>: Geo: The TV final episode was better in the fact that it's a bit more open ending. You could've plausibly gone on with the manga ending in the OVAs. The 2nd OVA ending was pure, unadulterated ass. <BigPants>: NIj: I extremely dislike that last disc of BAV and do not watch it when I go through the series <Mike_Toole>: <reminded me of Ender's Game, to be honest.> <JK>: Has anybody else from the industry been here tonight besides me? <Geoduck>: Okay, we're ending the official chat now...everyone's welcome to stay, of course. <[DR]Nij>: "All right, Akari, let's go! We're gonna be up against some nasty ALIENS!"
*** Raptortwo has joined #dubreview <BigPants>: Hey JK! LOVE the Haibane Renmei dub. Like... LOVE it. Watched it twice so far and it brought back many memories on a different level. Great job! <lightningcount>: lol <Raptortwo>: blues seeds ending wasn't bad <Mahou>: And it's rare, hearing me say that about an anime I like. <lightningcount>: did anyone else go to baaf?

Yes... and if fewer people had, this chat might have been more crowded. =P
